Bwindi impenetrable N. Park- “The ultimate Gorilla Experience”

Conservation Importance: A UNESCO- designated World Heritage Site that provides habitat to Mountain Gorillas and Chimpanzees, two great African apes, both of which are known to be as endangered animals. With 350 bird species recorded, 8 are known only in the impenetrable forest and nowhere else in East Africa. Seven bird species are listed in the IUCN Red Data Book that includes the Dwarf Honeyguide, African Green Broadbill (rare), Kivu ground thrush, Forest Ground Thrush, Grauer’s Rush Warbler (vulnerable), Chapin’s Flycatcher.

Specie diversity: At her size, specie diversity is great. There at least more than 120 species of mammals, 350 species of birds, 310 species of butterflies, 200 species of trees, 100 species of ferns, 27 species of frog’s chameleons, geckos and many endangered species

 Altitude: 1,160metres – 2,607

Tourist attraction: Gorilla tracking is the major tourist activity in this park. 15 groups of mountain gorilla families have been habituated and only 8 tourists booked per group per day that marks a total of 120 permits a day. forest trails lead to various attractions including rivers, waterfalls, swamps, rift valley view points, community walks through villages provide insights into the lives of the Bakiga & Batwa (pygmy) peoples living beside the forest, special vegetation type and to high level of wildlife concentration like monkeys.

Elevation:  1190 – 2607 meters over the sea level.

Size and accessibility: The 331km² of jungle forests containing both montane and lowland forest. While there is a road that cuts through one section of the park, Kabale-Ruhija-Buhoma road, most areas are accessible only on foot.

Habitant: Medium altitude moist evergreen forest, montane forest with patches of bamboo.

Some of Mountain Gorilla families in Uganda includes: Rushegura family with 19 members, Habinyanji with 17 members, Mubare with 8 members, Bitukura with 24 membesr, Oruzongo with 25 members, Kyaguriro with 15 members, Nkuringo with 19 members,Mishaya with 12 members, Nshongi with 36 members, Kahugye with 13 members, Bweza, Busingye with 7 members, Nyakagezi with 11 members.
